Adjunct Professor of Photography and Media Art

Senior Overview: Students are expected to create conceptual practices in Media Art (photography, video or Web based projects) for final portfolio exhibitions. The main goals are to help students understand and use theory and conceptual practices as parallel tools to the technical media skills they have acquired, and to create written and visual materials for their final projects for exhibition and portfolio presentation in the campus gallery.

Digital Photography & Photoshop: The purpose of this course is to increase photographic skills through the use of the computer and the Photoshop program as a parallel tool in the photographic process. A variety of conceptual approaches and technical skills are introduced to familiarize students with technical aspects of the computer and to give them a broader understanding of the software. Students are expected to create a project that reflects their creative interests. In this class the student’s focus is on portfolio development. Special attention is given to synthesizing conceptual ideas and technical skill-sets of the camera and the computer (Photoshop), within the context of a deeper contemporary and theoretical exploration of creating art

Interior Design Photography: Course instruction related to the specific needs of interior designers and architecture students interested in understanding architectural photography. Familiarity with photography was achieved through hands-on experience. The course addressed  the use of photography to document architectural space and capture the essence of design. The basics of photography and theoretical models of architectural photography were discussed to provide a foundation for understanding and achieving control of the medium.

Foundations of Color Photography:Students employed digital and analog color films to explore the aspects and attributes of color as applied to the fashion, editorial, advertising, and fine arts areas of the photography industry.  Electronic flash, tungsten light, and daylight were utilized as light sources in the exploration of how digital and analog photography record color and light.

Digital Photography & Photoshop:The purpose of this course was to increase photographic skills through the use of the computer and the Photoshop program as a paralleltool in the photographic process. A variety of conceptual approaches and technical skills were introduced to familiarize students with technical aspects of the computer and to give them a broader understanding of this ever-changing technology.

Pre-College Program:Through the School of Continuing and Professional Studies, high school students can take university-level courses to prepare them for applying to college and a possible profession in photography. Taught courses such as Digital Photography & Photoshop, Digital Camera Use for Beginners, and courses designed to provide students with skills and tools in the medium. The end goal was to create a body of artwork for art and design portfolios for college applications.
