TEACHING EXPERIENCE
Fashion Institute of Technology, New York City (2008-Present) Adjunct Professor of Photography- Senior Research Design Project class is an introductory course in art theory and conceptual practices in photography. The main goals of this course are to help understand and use theory and conceptual practices as parallel tools to technical photography skills, to create written and visual materials needed to complete a thesis portfolio. Interior Design Photography course relating to the specific needs of interior designers and architecture students interested in understand architectural photography. Familiarity with photography is achieved through hands on experience. Define purpose and stressing the importance of a conscious effort and responsibility of capturing the essence of design within space. The basics of photography and theoretical models of architectural photography are discussed to provide a foundation for understanding and achieving control of the medium. Foundations of Color Photography, Students employ digital and analog color films to explore the aspects and attributes of color as applied to the fashion, editorial, advertising, and fine arts areas of the photography industry. Electronic flash, tungsten light, and daylight are utilized as light sources in the exploration of how digital and analog photography record color and light. Digital Photography & Photoshop, an introductory course in digital photography and Photoshop. The purpose of this course is to increase photographic skills through the use of the computer and the Photoshop program as a parallel tool for making art to traditional photographic processes. A variety of conceptual approaches and technical skills are introduced. Brooklyn College, Brooklyn, New York (2007-2008) Adjunct Professor of Photography- Undergraduate and graduate levels of photographic instruction in Black & White / Color photography class. Students received demonstrations on the use of 135mm film / digital cameras, darkroom instruction, lab presentation and lecture about the use of photographic medium through theoretical models about art and the equipment, safety in the darkroom to create that art. Ramapo College, Mahwah, New Jersey (2005-2007) Adjunct Professor of Photography- Foundation Computer Art and Digital Photography. Both computer photography classes provide instruction using digital cameras with Photoshop CS program on a Mac platform, learning to understand images for art and photography projects and computer operation for real world usage. Foundation Black & White Photography, students receive demonstrations on the use of 135mm cameras, darkroom instruction, lab presentation and lecture about the use of photographic equipment, computer usage and the Photoshop program, conceptual approaches and technical skills are introduced. Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, New York (2004-2005) Adjunct Professor of Digital Imaging- Instruction using digital cameras with the Photoshop CS program on a Mac platform. Focused also on students learning to understand images for art and photography projects and computer operation for real world usage. Tampere School of Art and Media, Tampere, Finland (2000-2003) Visiting Artist Adjunct Professor of Photograph- Professor of a photography class in the spring semesters on the subject of “Art and Architecture.” Focus of the course was providing students with an understanding of the ways “art” exists in different contexts and their locations within public or private space. Each student created a site-specific installation using photography as a tool based on the lessons from the class. Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio (2003) Visiting Artist Adjunct Professor of Photograph- Taught three photo-based art classes: 4x5 View Camera, and basic B&W photography, and one class of photography in Art and Architecture. These classes where specifically designed to tie in the use of view camera operations and other photographic tools to help students expand their artistic talents in different sites, from public to private spaces in architecture. Using photography, students created a thesis on "what is architecture?”, “what is space?” Each student created a site-specific installation using photography and projectors as tools and based on the lessons from the class.
